Barqi Tojik’s debts reportedly exceed 3.7 billion somoni

Debts of Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s the state-owned national utility company) increased by 1 billion somoni in a year to December 31, 2017.  

According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR), Barqi Tojik’s current debts (loan investment agreements are not included) amount to more than 3.7 billion somoni.  

Recall, Rustam Majidzoda, the head of the Barqi Tojik Finance Directorate, told reporters in January last year that the company’s debts (loan investment agreements are not included) reached 2.7 billion somoni.  

Barqi Tojik now owes 763 million somoni (110 million somoni increase in a year to December 31, 2017) to Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Sangtudinskaya GES-1, which operates the Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP).

Besides, the Tajik national integrated power company now owes large amounts to Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) Orienbonk (Tajikistan’s largest commercial bank) and the Sangtuda-2 HPP.

Barqi Tojik’s wage and tax debts are also large.  

As of January 1, 2017, Barqi Tojik’s total debts amounted to 11 billion somoni.  

Thus, the current total of the company have exceeded 14.7 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 1.6 billion U.S. dollars).
