Kyrgyzstan’s AKIpress news agency reports that President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov today met with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe in a narrow format.

Tajik leader reportedly noted that he attaches importance to the first official visit of President of Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan.

“Kyrgyzstan is our close neighbor, our countries cooperate on many important bilateral and regional issues.  We express confidence that by joint efforts we can raise cooperation between our countries to a higher level,” Emomali Rahmon said.

For his part, Sooronbay Jeenbekov thanked for the reception and invitation to visit Tajikistan.

He reportedly reminded that this year marks the 25th anniversary of cooperation and establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

"Today's visit to Tajikistan speaks for Kyrgyzstan's readiness for further cooperation, development  and deepening of Kyrgyz-Tajik ties," Kyrgyz president said noting that the visit will give a new impulse to further development of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Meanwhile Kyrgyzstan’s Kabar news agency reports that Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov arrived in Tajikistan today on a two-day official visit.

Jeenbekov’s meetings with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in narrow and expanded formats are expected to result in signing of a number of documents.

The main political document will be the signing of a joint statement by the presidents, which reflects the intentions and agreements on the whole range of Kyrgyz-Tajik cooperation.

Among the documents for signing are: the Program of Trade and Economic Cooperation between the Governments of the two countries, the Agreement on Cooperation between the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Agency for Combating Economic Crimes of Tajikistan, according to Kabar.

The sides intend to activate bilateral cooperation between the Ministries of Health and the Ministries of Culture by signing the prepared agreements, as well as to sign the Agreement on cooperation in the field of certification of scientific and pedagogical personnel of the highest qualification.

During the visit, the Intergovernmental document on the order of stay of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic on the territory of Tajikistan and citizens of Tajikistan on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic will be signed. The Program of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries will be signed as well. In addition, negotiations on the delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border will be held, Kabar reports.

While in Dushanbe, Jeenbekov will also hold talks Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda and Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), Shukurjon Zuhurov.
