In the frameworks of cooperation agreements between Tajikistan and foreign countries, 4,993 Tajik students were sent last year to study abroad, the Minister of Education and Science, Nouriddin Said, told reporters in Dushanbe on February 5.

“Tajik students were sent for studying primarily to the Russian Federation – 4,370 people.  Besides, 243 students were sent to China, 99 to Kyrgyzstan, 77 to Kazakhstan, 20 to Ukraine, 15 to Indonesia, 13 to Belarus, six to Kuwait and 150 other students were sent to other countries,” the minister noted.

Meanwhile, 3,580 students from 30 countries across the world are currently studying at universities as well as technical and vocational schools in Tajikistan, Nouriddin Said added.

“One of the important events in Tajikistan’s education sector that took place last year was invitation of Russian teachers to work with secondary schools in Tajikistan.  Last year, Russia sent 60,538 textbooks for Russian-language schools in Tajikistan,” the minister said.

Recall, Russia last year sent 30 teachers to secondary schools in Tajikistan.  Teachers from the Russian regions of Kostroma, Kemerovo, Bashkortostan, Daghestan, and Tatarstan have arrived in Tajikistan to teach subjects such as mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, computer science, Russian, and others at secondary schools where teaching is conducted in Russian.

The government-sponsored Russian World Foundation, which promotes the Russian language and culture abroad, provided Tajikistan with 20 tons of textbooks on various subjects by September 1, 2017.
