Asia-Plus

In Tajikistan, the gross domestic product (GDP) per capital fell 1.3 percent last year – from 786 in 2016 to 775 U.S. dollars.

The gross domestic product (GDP) per capita is the national output, divided by the population, expressed in U.S dollars per person, for the latest year for which data is published.

Based on current data, Tajikistan’s GDP for 2017 was 61,093,600,000 somoni (equivalent to some 6.9 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 7.1 percent over 2016 in comparable prices, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

As of January 1, 2018, the country’s population was estimated at 8,931,000.

The agrarian sector still prevails in the gross domestic product (GDP) structure of Tajikistan.

Last year, Tajikistan’s GDP structure by sources of income included: agriculture, forestry, fishery and hunting – 21.1 percent (0.4 percent increase compared to 2016); industry and energy – 17.0 percent (1.9 percent increase compared to 2016); sale and repair of automobiles and home appliances and consumer goods, hotels and restaurants – 14.0 percent; transportation, communications and warehousing – 11.1 percent; taxes – 10.8 percent; construction – 9.3 percent (1.8 percent decrease compared to 2016); etc.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan’s gross-domestic product (GDP) is projected to reach 65.7 billion somoni in 2018.

In 2019, the country’s gross domestic product is projected to stand at 73.5 billion somoni.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on November 7, 2017 raised growth forecasts for the 37 countries in which it operates, saying that Tajikistan is expected to see GDP growth of 5.0 percent in 2018 respectively.

Tajik economic bloc ministries forecast that the somoni exchange rate against the U.S. dollar will slide to 9:1 in 2018, to 9.4:1 in 2019 and to 10:1 in 2020.
