This year, fruit harvests in Tajikistan have reportedly increased nearly one-third compared to the last year.
“This year, Tajikistan has produced 101,438 tons of various fruits, which is 31.2 percent more than last year,” Zafar Khojayev, the head of the department for agricultural statistics at the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, Tajikistan this year produced 8,100 tons of apples, 71,500 tons of apricots (22-percet increase compared to 2017), and 1,839 tons of grapes this year.
“This year, Tajikistan has exported 103 tons of citrus fruits (65 tons more than last year), 523.1 tons of grapes (last year – 266.8 tons), 56.1 tons of apples and pears (25.4 tons), and 5,800 tons of stone fruits (apricots, sweet cherries, plums), which is 1,200 tons more than last year,” Khojayev said.
Meanwhile, melon exports have declined this year. “This year Tajikistan has exported only 54,400 tons of melons and grounds, which is 212,400 tons less than last year,” Khojayev added.
By the way, prices for watermelons have risen this year not only in Tajikistan. Such a situation has been reported in all countries of the former Soviet Union. Specialists from the agricultural bodies of Azerbaijan and Ukraine say melons and grounds have sharply risen in prices this year because of abnormally hot weather.
