Behrouz Khojazoda wins second silver Tajikistan’s medal at Asian Summer Games in Indonesia

Tajikistan’s 2017 World Sambo Championships winner in -74kg category Behrouz Khojazoda has secured the second silver for Tajikistan in kurash in 81-kg category at the Asian Games in Jakarta.

In the final, our athlete was defeated by Iranian wrestler Ali Akbar Elyas.

This is the second medal for Tajikistan today including the silver in men’s hammer throw.

Behrouz’s silver has reportedly allowed Tajikistan climbing to the 30th place in the overall standings.

Kurash is one of the Turkic terms for “wrestling” and specifically refers is a folk wrestling style practiced in Central Asia.  Wrestlers use towels to hold their opponents, and their goal is to throw their opponents off the feet.  Founded in 1998, the International Kurash Association (IKA) has held championships since 1999.  There are three scoring point’s viz. Halal, Yam bosh and Chula. The player who scores a Halal wins the bout.  To score a Halal the player needs to throw his opponent on his back with full control, force and speed.  The throw that is close to Halal is given Yam bosh. Two Yam bosh makes a Halal.  The throw that is close to Yam bosh is given Chula. No number of Chula can equal a Yam bosh. There are three penalties in Kurash.  The first penalty is called Tamika, second penalty is Dakin and the third penalty is Groom which means disqualification.  The bout starts with salutation which is called Tauzin.  And to pause the bout Total is used and to cancel a point Bear is used.

This year, Tajik athletes are participating in the Asian Summer Games for the seventh time.  In the previous six Asiads, Tajik athletes won totaling 21 meads, including 4 gold, 3 silver and 14 bronze medals.  

The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.  The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games.  Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation.  The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
