The Government of Tajikistan is setting up a new body – the Export Development Agency — for the purpose of increasing the country’s export potential.
By government’s decree all organizational, legal and financial issues regarding establishment of the new Agency should be solved within a two-month period.
Proposals on making changes and addenda to the country’s relevant laws will be submitted within three months.
A total number of staff members of the new Agency will be 35 people (service staff not included), and they will be recruited through redundancy in relevant federally funded institutions.
The Ministry of Finance is ordered to submit proposals on staff reduction to the government within a month.
Meanwhile, exports of goods over the first six months of this year have reportedly amounted to 528.3 million U.S. dollars, which was 15.3 percent or 70.2 million USD more than in the same period last year.
Over the same six-month period, imports of goods into the country have amounted to more than 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, which was 22.7 percent or 283.1 million U.S. dollars more than in January-June last year.
The export-import coverage ratio has decreased from 36 percent in January-June 2017 to 35 percent in January-June this year.
The trade balance over the report period has been negative and amounted to 971.7 million U.S. dollars.
The major export commodities include raw materials such as cotton fiber and primary aluminum.
