The experience of Japan in agriculture and irrigation was introduced in Sughd region

In recent months, ex-participants of JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Program (training courses) understanding the importance of sharing experiences and contributing to sector development are more actively organizing different activities to disseminate advanced knowledge and experience gained through the training in Japan in Tajikistan. 

One of them is a seminar on the topic of “Sharing and utilizing the experience of Japan for the development of agriculture and irrigation sectors in Tajikistan”, which was conducted by ex-participants in B.Gafurov district of Sughd region on August 31, 2018.

In the seminar, the shortcomings with Water Users Associations (WUA) and farmers’ organizations were addressed and some advices and recommendations with the knowledge and skills gained through the training in Japan were provided to the participants.

The highlight was the presentations made by the ex-participants on new technologies for agriculture in Japan, such as water management, greenhouses, mechanization, breeding and seed production. All of these could be used as an alternative approach to develop the agriculture and irrigation systems in Tajikistan.

Mr. Zevarsho Zevarshoev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, who was chairing the event, stated that 5 conducted joint seminars in the past facilitated the improvement of the relationship and cooperation between Ministry of Agriculture and Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation and promoting further development of these sectors. He also mentioned that two institutions in cooperation with ex-participants of JICA’s KCCP and JICA itself will continue conducting such activities in order to cover as many as more dehkan farmers in Tajikistan. 

Implementation of JICA Knowledge Co-Creation Program, formally called as “JICA Training courses” in Tajikistan was started in 1993 by inviting Tajik officials to gain knowledge and experience on governance and macroeconomics development. This was very important for promoting peace and stability in the country. As of March 2018, the number of ex-participants of JICA training courses has exceeded 2100 people, with some of them working at senior positions at the Government of Tajikistan.

JICA began its technical cooperation with Tajikistan in 1993 by inviting Tajik officials to gain knowledge and experience on governance and macroeconomics development. As of January 2018, a total number of participants to JICA’s Knowledge Co-Creation Programs, formerly called the Training Programs, has exceeded 2100 people.

JICA Office was established in 2006 in Tajikistan and since then various Grant Financial Assistance and Technical Cooperation projects have been implemented more dynamically, aiming at improving living standard of Tajik people for the sectors such as agriculture and rural development, water supply, health, transport, energy, capacity building as well as SME promotion.

JICA’s cumulative investment portfolio in Tajikistan in all sectors comprises 34 projects amoэunting to more than 345 mln USD (82 mln USD for Technical Cooperation and 263 mln USD for Grant Assistance), including 12 on-going projects.
