In 2018, Tajikistan’s national budget reportedly received 420 million somoni less than it was planned due to failure of fulfilling the value added tax (VAT) and income tax collection targets.

President Emomali Rahmon today held a meeting to review the results of the past year's work, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

Heads of ministries, agencies, provinces, cities and districts as well as directors of project implementation units reportedly attended the meeting.  They reported on the results of work carried out last year.

Thus, Finance Minister Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, in particular, noted that the revenue part of the 2018 national budget had been overfulfilled by 0.3 percent or 71.4 million somoni.

According to him, the 2018 budget revenues amounted to 23.3 billion somoni.

The minister noted that the tax collection target was overfulfilled last year by 0.6 percent and the customs duty collection target was overfulfilled last year by 1.2 percent.

At the same time, Qahhorzoda noted that the country’s budget last year received 420 million somoni less than it was planned due to failure of fulfilling the VAT and income tax targets.

According to him, the country’s tax agencies last year collected income tax 8.3 million somoni less and the value added tax 411.4 million somoni less.

Speaking at the meeting, the head of the Customs Service under the Government, Nusratullo Davlatzoda, noted that Vahdat Township as well as Yovon, Panj, Farkhor, Khovaling and Vose districts failed to fulfill their tax collection targets last year.  In total, they reportedly collected 64 million somoni less that it was planned.

As of January 1, 2019, the volume of tax balances amounted to 712 million somoni, which is 60 million somoni less compared to January 1, 2018, Tajik chief customs officers added.
