In a report released at a government session, Tajik Prime Minister, Qohir Rasouzloda, noted on January 21 that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose 7.3 percent in a year to December 31, 2018, reaching 6.8 billion somoni.

According to him, production of industrial goods last year increased by 11.8 percent and production of agricultural goods last year increased by 4.0 percent compared to 2017.

In 2018, the year-end inflation stood at 5.4 percent, the prime minister said.

131 new enterprises were launched in Tajikistan last year, Rasoulzoda noted.

At the same time, the prime minister noted that a number of domestic textile producers were not in operation last year, and therefore, Tajikistan failed to increase the percentage of the cotton processed into manufactured goods in the country.

Thus, Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC) Olim Textiles and Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) Valizoda Mastchoh based in the Mastchoh district as well as OJSC Samar (Vose district) and Bofandai Norak (Nurek City) were not in operation last year.

In 2018, Tajikistan exported 93,000 tons of cotton fiber worth 165 million U.S. dollars, the prime minister added.
