Persons with criminal conviction now barred from public service

Date:

Criminal conviction stops people getting a job in public service.  The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on public service.

Presenting the bill to lawmakers, Juma Davlatov, the head of the Public Service Agency under the President of Tajikistan, said persons with criminal conviction are now barred from public service.

According to him, the amendments do not apply to persons who committed a crime by negligence.

Today, there are some 20,000 people working with the public service, Davlatov noted.
