The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) has developed the plan of actions to restore public trust in the country’s banking system.  Tajik central bank head has voiced it at a meeting with senior representatives of lending agencies.

According to the NBT press center, Tajik central bank head Jamshed Nourmahmadzoda met with top managers of local lending agencies on May 15 to discuss ways to implement instructions given by the president during a meeting with top managers of fiscal agencies and banks on May 10.

NBT head reportedly called on top managers of lending agencies to take efforts to regain consumers’ trust.

Speaking at the meeting, Nourmahmadzoda, in particular, noted that shortcomings exiting in the country’s banking system could be eliminate through: introducing NBT’s monetary policy; correct control and assessment of the baking system; preventing possible losses and reducing possible risks in the banking system; establishing a proper credit policy and reducing interest rate; reducing the share of inactive loans; attracting foreign investments; and improving financial literacy of the population.

A draft plan of actions developed by the NBT for implementation of president’s instruction was presented at the meeting.

The plan reportedly includes measures to eliminate shortcomings existing in the country’s banking and insurance systems.

Lending agencies were ordered to prepare their proposals for further inclusion in the drafted plan of actions, the NBT press center says.

The meeting participants reportedly also discussed issues related to de-dollarization of the country’s economy, reduction of impact of foreign currency on the market of banking services, access for people to cheap financial resources, women’s involvement in banking, etc.

Recall, President Emomali Rahmon reprimanded top managers of the Customs Service, Tax Committee and the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) on May 14.

Thus, NBT head Jamshed Nourmahmadzoda and his deputies Jamoliddin Nouraliyev, Homidullo Mashrabzoda and Lola Salimova were reprimanded for improper performance of their duties.

Two deputy chairpersons of the Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan — Lola Safarzoda and Poulodjon Yusufi – were dismissed “in connection with transfer to another job.”
