Nearly 6.7 tons of expired and counterfeit medicines and perfumes destroyed in Khatlon

The office of the Service for State Supervision of Health Care and Social Protection of the Population for the Khatlon province has destroyed 6,688 kilograms of expired and counterfeit medicines and perfumes.

“The expired and counterfeit medicines and perfumes were destroyed at the city dump of Bokhtar (the capital of the Khatlon province) on June 17,” the head of the office of the Service for State Supervision of Health Care and Social Protection of the Population for Khatlon, Mahmadjon Abdulqodirzoda, told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

“Of the total volume of the destroyed medicines, 70 percent has been handed over to our office for destruction by pharmaceutical companies and 30 percent has been withdrawn from drugstores’ shelves,” Abdulqodirzoda said.  

The source further added that pharmaceutical companies operating in the province had become more accountable and they collected and handed over the expired medicines to the office of the Service for State Supervision of Health Care and Social Protection of the Population for Khatlon in advance.
