To date, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invested almost 755 million U.S. million dollars in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy.
On Monday July 1, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti, who arrived in Tajikistan to meet with political leadership and businesses.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, Rahmon and Chakrabarti discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the EBRD
Tajik leader reportedly noted that the results of meetings create conditions for further expansion of cooperation between the sides in different directions.

The two sides, in particular, discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the Bank on efficient use of electric power, development of transportation infrastructure for the purpose of expanding regional cooperation, support for private sector in the country and improvement of economic well-being of the population, said the president’s website.
They reportedly also discussed issues related to implementing the Tajikistan National Development Strategy designed for the period up to 2030, increasing financing and providing grants.
While in Dushanbe, Mr. Chakrabarti is also expected to hold talks with the Minister of Finance Fayziddin Qahhorzoda and the Minister of Energy and Water Resources Usmonali Usmonzoda.
President Chakrabarti will also see representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises and participate in a public event.
This is the second visit of the President Suma Chakrabarti to Tajikistan. The first visit took place in 2014.
In Tajikistan the EBRD is focused on stabilizing and rebuilding trust in the banking sector, developing private enterprises and agribusiness, improving the availability, reliability and quality of municipal services and improving the quality of energy supply, regulation and energy efficiency
To date, the EBRD has reportedly invested almost €673 million (US$ 755 million) through 127 projects in various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy.
