Heating rates expected to rise significantly in Tajik capital beginning on September 1

Date:

A decree issued by the Tajik government on June 22 has approved new heating energy rates for Dushanbe.  Heating energy prices are expected to rise beginning on September 1 this year.

Thus, the heating energy price for the Dushanbe heating system network facilities, which provide the Dushanbe residential customers with heat, will nearly double.

Under the mentioned decree, the heating energy price for the Dushanbe heating system network facilities will be raised from 8.77 somoni per gigacalorie (Gcal) to 17.00 somoni (93.8 percent increase) beginning on September 1, 2019.

The heating energy price for federally funded institutions will rise from 67.44 somoni per Gcal to 98.67 somoni (46.3 percent increase) beginning on September 1, 2019.

The future price of heating energy for residential customs in autumn-winter period 2019-2020 is still unknown.  The heating rate for residential customers should be coordinated with Antimonopoly Agency.

Last year, heating energy price for the Dushanbe heating system network facilities rose nearly 15 percent (from 7.63 somoni to 8.77 somoni).  However, residential customers last year paid for heating energy at the previous price – 1.03 somoni per square meter of floor space.

Meanwhile, private companies will have to pay for heating energy during the next heating period at the rate of 11.47 somoni per Gcal, which is nearly 111 times more than in the previous heating system, when they paid for heating energy at the rate of only 2.59 somoni per Gcal.

In Tajikistan, only Dushanbe has the centralized heating system.  In the Tajik capital, the heating system starts in November and last until mid-March.
