Tajik authorities attribute high prices for air tickets to high jet fuel prices

Asia-Plus

The Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of Tajikistan attributes high prices for air tickets to high jet fuel prices.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Civil Aviation Agency Director Ikrom Subhonzoda noted on July 26 that the jet fuel cost accounts for up to 45 percent of an air ticket price.

According to him, air tickets in Tajikistan are more expensive compared to other countries because Tajikistan imports jet fuel.

He further noted that over the first six months of this year, air ticket prices in Tajikistan have fallen 10-12 percent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, air tickets prices have risen 38.1 percent over the first six months of this year.

The current economy class ticket for the Dushanbe-Moscow flight operated by Tajikistan’s privately owned air company Somon Air costs 280.00 U.S. dollar.  Meanwhile, the current economy class ticket for the flight from the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek to Moscow costs 138.00 U.S. dollars.  It is to be noted that Kyrgyzstan also imports jet fuel.
