Tajik and Kyrgyz president are expected to continue talks in Kyrgyzstan’s northern city of Cholpon-Ata tomorrow, July 27.

Upon conclusion of his working visit to the northern Sughd province and trips to Vorukh and Isfara, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon Friday afternoon departed for his working visit to Kyrgyzstan, according to Tajik state-run news agency Khovar.

Deputy prime minister, foreign minister, presidential advisor for foreign policy and some other officials are accompanies Rahmon on his visit to Kyrgyzstan.

On July 26, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbai Jeenbekov met in Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave in Kyrgyzstan and talked to local residents on both sides of the border.

Jeenbekov also talked to the residents of the Kyrgyz village of Ak-Sai and told them that he has taken the situation along the border under his personal control.

On the same day, Rahmon and Jeenbekov continued talks in the Tajik northern city of Isfara.  The short-term meeting in Isfara was reportedly focused on issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, including demarcation and delimitation of the disputed stretches of the mutual border.

Rahmon and Jeenbekov will continue talks in Kyrgyzstan’s northern city of Cholpon-Ata tomorrow, July 27.

Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan is 970 kilometers long and just over half – 519 kilometers – has officially been agreed upon.  Much of the border that remains undelineated rests between Tajikistan’s Sughd province and Kyrgyzstan’s Batken province.  Trouble periodically sparks around the Tajik exclave of Vorukh.
