Tajikistan earned US$3.6 million from electricity supplies to neighboring countries last month

Asia-Plus

Over the first ten months of this year, Tajikistan has earned more than 89 million U.S. dollars from electricity supplies to neighboring countries, which is nearly 22 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

In January-September this year, the electricity exports totaled to85.4 million U.S. dollars.

Thus, Tajikistan earned 3.6 million U.S. dollars from electricity supplies to neighboring countries in October.

Tajikistan supplies electricity to Afghanistan, Uzbekistan as well as in relatively small volumes to Kyrgyzstan.

In all, Tajikistan plans to export some 3.5 billion kWh of electricity this year.

Representatives of Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national integrated power company) say the electricity supplies to the neighboring countries are stopped with the beginning of shortage of it in Tajikistan itself.

Meanwhile, residents of some regions last month complained about limited supply of electricity.

Residents of Rasht (eastern Tajikistan) and Panjakent (Sughd province) currently report a lack of electricity.

Barqi Tojik, however, says electricity rationing will not be introduced this year, noting that they have enough capacities to provide the regular electricity supply.

Power outages that took place in some regions of the country last month were reportedly caused by repair works.
