Entrepreneurs of the Bokhtar region (Vakhsh Valley) of Khatlon province have reportedly invested more than 20 million somoni (TJS) in the repair of roads and bridges in the area.

The head of the Road Management Directorate for the Bokhtar region, Nasrullo Faizullozoda, says local entrepreneurs have invested in the repair of nearly 500 kilometers of roads in the area.

According to him, the entrepreneurs have provided building materials and asphalt and the Directorate specialists have carried out the repair work.

“Nearly 2,750 kilometers of roads of international, republican and local value are currently on the Directorate’s balance sheet,” said Faizullozoda.  “The republican budget has provided 2.812.7 billion somoni for maintenance of roads of international republican value, while the maintenance of more than 1.968 kilometers of local roads should be financed by local budgets.”

Meanwhile, some cities and districts have not provided funds this year for maintenance of local roads, Faizullozoda said.  “Thus, Jomi and Panj districts have not provided money this year for maintenance of local roads, while the city of Sarband and the Dousti district have provided only 7,000 somoni each,” he noted.

“In accordance with government’s decree, local budgets should earmark funds for maintenance of roads of local value, but no one of 13 cities and districts of the region earmarks funds for these purposes.  Only a few districts provide a little money in case of overfulfillment of the budget revenues,” Faizullozoda added.
