Asia-Plus

Tajik authorities have decided to shave off debts of large state-run enterprises, including Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO), Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national integrated power company), Tajik Air (Tajik national air carrier), Dushanbe International Airport and the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Rohi Ohani Tojikiston (Tajik Railways).

The Government of Tajikistan has ordered the Ministry of Finance and other relevant ministries and agencies to take urgent measures to knock off debts of large state-run enterprises.

This list of enterprises whose debts should be knocked off includes Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) TALCO, OJSHC Barqi Tojik, OJSC Dushanbe International Airport, OJSC Tajik Air and SUE Tajik Railways.

As of October 1, 2019, receivables of the country’s enterprises and organizations amounted to more than 64.6 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 6.6 billion U.S. dollars).

The share of inefficient enterprises has reportedly amounted to 28.5 percent of the overall number of enterprises operating in the country.

The most incorrigible nonpayer is Barqi Tojik.  As of January 1, 2020, Barqi Tojik’s receivables reportedly amounted to 26 billion somoni (about 2.7 billion USD), including 21 billion somoni spent for implementation of investment projects in the field of energy and 5 billion somoni owed by the company to Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 hydropower plants and  OJSC Orienbonk,
