COVID-19: India sends 4.6 tons of medicines to Tajikistan

India has provided humanitarian aid to Tajikistan, sending  medicines amidst the COVID crisis.

Organized by the Government of India, a special flight (AI-1983/84) of Air India yesterday brought 4.6 tons of medicines to Dushanbe to support Tajikistan in combating the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

A handover ceremony of the humanitarian aid that took place at the Dushanbe airport was attended by India’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Viraj Singh, according to the Indian Embassy in Dushanbe.

First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, Saida Umarzoda, and  Deputy Minister Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, Zohir Saidzoda, accepted the aid. 

One Tajik citizen, who studied in India in the framework of ITEC (Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation) program, also arrived in Dushanbe by this special Air India flight on May 28.

Recall, the Government of India organized a special flight of Air India on May 27 to repatriate Tajik citizens stranded in India and Indian citizens stranded in Tajikistan.  

The flight AI-1983 brought home 45 Tajik citizens, who were studying under various courses sponsored by the Government of India and were unable to return home due to Covid19 crisis and closure of airports in both India and Tajikistan.  On return, the flight carried 143 Indian citizens from Dushanbe to Kannur (Kerala)

On May 28, a second special flight of Air India took another 143 Indian citizens from Dushanbe to Jaipur (Rajasthan).
