More than 500 Russian nationals stranded on the Tajik-Uzbek border waiting for help from their country

Asia-Plus

More than 500 Russian nationals, including women and children, stranded at the Oibek border crossing point (BCP) on the Tajik-Uzbek (Mastchoh district of Sughd province) are waiting for help from their country.  Many of them have been there for already ten days, with little or no shelter and sanitation.

More than 500 people have come there in some 140 cars practically from all regions of Tajikistan.  They ask the authorities to organize “green corridor” as they can no longer stay there – they have run out of money.

People are determined and ready to stay on the border until they are given permission to leave.

Meanwhile Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry says the Tajik side has already resolved the issue and given those Russian nationals permission to leave.

Now, the Russian authorities must reach agreement with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on travel through their territories.

Russia’s General Consulate in Khujand has not yet given official comments on the situation.
