The number of officially confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Tajikistan has exceeded 7,000.
48 new officially confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Tajikistan yesterday, bringing a total number of the officially confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country to 7,015 as of the night of July 22, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population (MoHSPP).
MoHSPP says 5,741 (81.8 percent) COVID-19 patients have recovered as of the night of July 22, 2020. 58 coronavirus survivors were reportedly discharged from hospitals yesterday.
According to a MoHSPP, one more COVID-19 patient died in Tajikistan yesterday, bringing the COVID-19-linked death toll in the country to 58.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Tajikistan is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus was confirmed to have spread to Tajikistan when its index cases, in Dushanbe and Khujand, were confirmed on April 30, 2020.
In neighboring Uzbekistan, the number of coronavirus cases was 18,379 as of the night of July 22, including 95 deaths, according to Central Asia Media.
In Kazakhstan, Health Minister Aleksei Tsoi said on July 21 that the coronavirus situation in the country had started stabilizing after a spike in cases. According to Tsoi, the number of people who recovered from the coronavirus in the last two weeks increased 60 percent, while the number of new coronavirus patients per day decreased from 4 percent to 2.5 percent.
Tsoi asked the government to allocate an additional 47 billion tenges ($113 million) for coronavirus testing.
As of the night of July 22, the number of coronavirus cases in Kazakhstan was reported at 76,799, including 585 deaths, according to inbusiness.kz.
In Kyrgyzstan, Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov said on July 21 that construction on two new hospitals, each with a capacity of 100 patients, will start in Bishkek and the second-largest city, Osh, this week.
AKIPress says 30,326 officially confirmed cases were reported in the country as of the night of July, including 1,169 deaths.
Turkmenistan is the only country in the region that has not officially registered any coronavirus cases, but RFE/RL correspondents have reported that local hospitals have been overwhelmed with patients with pneumonia symptoms, some of whom, including medical personnel, have died.
In some parts of the country, so-called quarantine zones have been established and some industrial facilities are being shut down, RFE/RL correspondents report.
