One of Central Asia’s largest rescuers’ training centers to be built in Tajikistan

Asia-Plus

A rescuers’ training center will be built in Tajikistan, a source within the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the European Union has awarded a €3 million for implementation of this project.

The Government of Tajikistan has reportedly allocated an area of 27 hectares in the Qaratogh Gorge for construction of this facility, which will be one of the largest rescuers’ training centers in the region.

Construction of the center is expected to begin in August.

Tajikistan's geology, hydrology, and topography make it prone to such natural hazards as avalanches, droughts, earthquakes, flooding, and land and mudslides.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Rustam Nazarzoda, the chief of the Emergencies Committee, told reporters yesterday that 178 natural disasters (heavy snowfalls, torrential rains, avalanches, land and mudslides) have been reported in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year.  According to him, the natural disasters have left seven dead in the country.
