Tajikistan's geology, hydrology, and topography make it prone to such natural hazards as avalanches, droughts, earthquakes, flooding, and land and mudslides.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Rustam Nazarzoda, the chief of the Emergencies Committee, told reporters yesterday that 178 natural disasters (heavy snowfalls, torrential rains, avalanches, land and mudslides) have been reported in Tajikistan over the first six months of this year.  According to him, the natural disasters have left seven dead in the country.
