Tajik authorities are seeking grants from international financial institutions to support development of the country’s economy.
Tajikistan’s relevant bodies are currently conducting negotiations with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank (WB), the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).
Tajikistan is reportedly seeking non-strings financial aid from international financial institutions for the purpose of implementing president’s order to prevent and minimize the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the country’s economy.
To support the country’s economy under difficult conditions of the global economy, Tajik authorities have reportedly attracted 189.5 million USD in no-interest loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), a 50 million USD grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), a grant of 11.3 million from the World Bank (WB), a 9.4 million USD grant from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and a grant of 1 million euros from the Government of Germany, the MoEDT press center said.
Tajikistan also plans to attract 52.2 million USD from ADB and 16 million USD from the Word Bank in the future, which is quite important for development of the country’ economy and its banking system.
According to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), Tajikistan’s loan portfolio increased 9.5 percent or 852 million somoni in a year to June 30, 2020, reaching 9.8 billion somoni.
