Japan supports improvement of educational sector in Tajikistan

On January 20, 2021, signing ceremony for two new projects took place at the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe.

The grant contracts were signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Mr. Takayuki Miyashita and the representatives of the recipient organizations.

According to Japan’s Embassy, the total grant of Government of Japan for the projects amounts to 180,636 USD.

The two new projects, funded under the scheme of Japan`s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), are “The Project for Construction of School No.81 in Saidali Tabarov Village, Qaratogh Jamoat, Tursunzoda City”, signed with Mr. Parviz Akramzoda, Mayor of Tursunzoda City, for the amount of 90,460 USD and “The Project for Construction of School No.66 in Ochildi Village, Chashmasor Jamoat, Fayzobod District, signed with Mr. Bobisho Kholzoda, Chairperson of Fayzobod District, for the amount of 90,176 USD.

During the ceremony, Mr. Takayuki Miyashita made a following remark “the Government of Japan has worked with Tajik people in various fields, especially in the field of education.  This is because the Japanese learned that education is the foundation of national development from the history of our country. Currently, the Embassy of Japan has built 50 schools in Tajikistan in collaboration with the local governments. We hope that the school buildings constructed by these 2 projects will help children learn in a comfortable environment and drive the future development of Tajikistan.”

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  As of today, GGP has supported 421 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 34.0 million has been provided since 1996.
