Majlisi Milli speaker demands that Tajik chief prosecutor put an end to torture of detainees

The fifth session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament) of the sixth convocation, presided over by its head, Rustam Emomali, took place in Dushanbe on January 25. 

Tajik Prosecutor-General Yusuf Rahmon reported on the work carried out by the country’s prosecutor offices in the past year to ensure compliance with laws in the country, according to the Majlisi Milli press center.  

Majlisi Milli speaker reportedly set specific tasks for the country's prosecutor offices to prevent citizens from joining terrorist and extremist groups, provide information security of the country and prevent juvenile crime, especially brawls and stabbing.  

He also drew attention of Tajik chief prosecutor to increase in the number of corruption-related crimes in the country and unreliability of some statistical data in the agrarian sector. 

Majlisi Milli speaker also demanded that prosecutor offices take adequate measures to combat trafficking in narcotic drugs and human beings.  

Rustam Emomali also demanded that Tajik chief prosecutor put an end to torture of detainees and prison inmates and stop hazing in the ranks of the Tajik army.
