Asia-Plus

Representatives of civil societies of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan released a joint statement, in which they call for an immediate end to all military and aggressive actions and ask presidents of both countries to take responsibility for the negotiation process.

They, in particular, noted that Tajik and Kyrgyz people share common history, common religion and many years of experience of peaceful interaction and friendship.

“We overcame together the hardships of civil conflict in Tajikistan and together found ways of a peaceful settlement of this conflict in 1992-1997,” the statement says.

“In addition to a common history, we have a common future, which we create together here and now.  In this regard, we apply to you as heads of our states, commanders-in-chief of the armies, and guarantors of the Constitution of our countries and observance of human rights.”

Representatives of civil societies of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan call for an immediate end to all military and aggressive actions and note that the ongoing military conflict leads to a general destabilization of the situation within both countries.

They ask the presidents of the both countries to create all necessary conditions for openness and availability of data in the information space of the two countries.

“Fact-checkers of civil societies of both countries are already working to suppress inauthentic content in each of the countries and we call on you to promote close cooperation of state bodies with us,” civil societies of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan say in their joint statement.

They also note that negotiating commissions must include representatives of civil society, including women.

…The joint statement was adopted at an online meeting between representatives of civil societies of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan that took place on April 30, 2021.  In all, 60 people participated in that meeting.
