Addressing a joint press conference with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe after their one-on-one meeting and a ceremony where various cooperation documents were signed, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that his country supports Tajik leader’s initiative to declare 2025 as the "International Year of Glaciers Preservation" and set up the International Fund for Glaciers Preservation.

He further noted that “due to a new package of documents signed in Dushanbe today, a two-way trade between two countries will reach 1 billion U.S. dollars in 2022.”

“Today, we reached an agreement to construct two hydropower plants with a total capacity of 320 megawatt on the Zarafshon River in Tajikistan,” Mirziyoyev said.

According to him, the joint intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation, which is co-chaired by premiers of the two countries, has done a lot, but he asked them to intensify their work.

“I ordered heads of all Uzbek districts and cities bordering Tajikistan to establish effective cooperation with border cities and districts of Tajikistan, and thereby, we will ensure cooperation between the two states at the levels of the presidents, the governments, regions, cities and districts,” Uzbek president added.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon told journalist that the two leaders had discussed the main problem of the region – the problem of establishment of peace and accord in Afghanistan.

“In this regard, we have instructed power-wielding structures of the two countries to expand cooperation, Emomali Rahmon said.

Tajik leader also noted that they had reached an agreement to launch joint ventures on producing textile and food products as well as on processing mining minerals.
