Kyrgyzstan announces third wave of COVID-19

The third wave of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is observed in Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz Deputy Health Minister, Zhalaldin Rahmatullayev, told reporters in Bishkek on June 15, according to Fergana news agency.  

Kyrgyz health official noted that the first two waves of COVID-19 were registered in the country in July and November last year respectively.  “Unfortunately, the third wave of the infection is being observed today,” Rahmatullayev sad.  

Increase in the number of COVID-19 cases has reportedly been registered since April.  Over the past seven days,  high incidence has been reported in the cities of Osh and Bishkek.

The increase in the incidence in Bishkek exceeds the national indicators 3.6 times and the increase in the incidence in Osh exceeds the national indicators 2.6 times.  

According to the findings of the latest research for March-April 2021, four strains of COVID-19 have circulated in Kyrgyzstan. 

According to data from the Kyrgyz Health Ministry, 514 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in the country as of June 15.

In all, 111,143 cases of COVID-19 and 1,906 coronavirus-related deaths have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since COVID-19 outbreak was reported in the country.
