As of July 1, 2021, Tajikistan’s investment portfolio has included 74 projects totaling 38.1 billion somonis, Sa’di Qodirzoda, the head of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), told reporters in Dushanbe on July 28.
According to him, these funds have been directed towards energy sector — 969 million somonis, transportation — 632 million somonis, education — about 103 million somonis, public healthcare — 148 million somonis, agriculture – 105 million somonis, public utilities – about 160 million somonis, and so forth.
Over the first six months of this year, foreign investment in Tajikistan’s economy has reportedly amounted to 276.3 million U.S. dollars, which was 99 million U.S. dollars more than in the same period last year.
China has remained the largest foreign investment source in Tajikistan.
“Over the reporting period (January-June, 2021), China has invested 104 million USD in Tajikistan’s economy, Luxembourg – 66 million USD, Turkey – 13.5 million USD, Switzerland – 13.1 million USD, and Saudi Arabia – 10.6 million USD,” Qodirzoda said.
Investments made by Turkey and Switzerland as well as 89.1 million USD invested by China are foreign direct investment (FDI) directed towards mining, processing industry and service sector.
Over the first six months of this year, 20,582 new business entities have been registered in Tajikistan, bringing a total number of business entities in the country to 342,100, Qodirzoda added.
