In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavqi Zavqizoda said on August 2 that Tajikistan has produced a total of 16.6 billion somonis worth of industrial goods over the first six months of this year.
According to him, the real growth rate of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) over the reporting period has been 8.7 percent. Based on current data, the gross domestic product for January-June this year was 39.9 billion somonis,
“GDP growth was ensured by the 24-percent rise in industrial production, 8.1-percent increase in production of agricultural goods, and 22.1-percent increase in fixed investment,” the minister said.
Over the same six-month period, 78 new enterprises have been introduced into operation and 963 new jobs have been created, Zavqizoda noted.
He further noted that the rate of inflation in the consumer goods sector during January-June this year was 3.9 percent, which reportedly was 0.4 percent fewer compared to the same period last year.
“Over the reporting period, prices of foodstuffs have increased on average by 5.1 percent. Non-foodstuffs rose in cost on average by 3.1 percent during January-June this year, prices and rates for services rendered to the population have increased on average by 1.6 percent over the first six months of this year,” Zavqizoda said.
During January-June this year, Tajikistan reportedly generated 10.068.9 kWh of electricity, which was 1.7 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
Decrease in electricity generation has been caused by 11-percent decrease in water levels in the Vakhsh River.
