CSTO Secretary General: Work on the adoption of a program to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border will be accelerated

Date:

At the end of the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which after a long break due to the pandemic took place yesterday, September 16, in face-to-face format in Dushanbe, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas told reporters about its results.

In particular, he said:

«One of the main issues discussed by the heads of state today was the situation in Afghanistan, which changed dramatically after the withdrawal of US troops and NATO military contingent from there..

The rapid offensive of the Taliban movement, the transfer under its control of almost the entire territory of Afghanistan, including the state borders and the capital, the city of Kabul, as well as the change of power in the country, significantly affect the situation in the Central Asian region of the CSTO collective security and cause us deep concern».

«The CSTO is closely monitoring the development of the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border. The main goal of the Organization in the current conditions remains to ensure the security of the CSTO member states. At the same time, we continue to give priority in our activities to political and diplomatic methods».

«The presidents of the CSTO member states agreed to make additional efforts to develop cooperation in countering the challenges and threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan».
