Man purchases TJS82,500 worth of jewelry in counterfeit dollars and euros

A man has purchased jewelry worth 82,500 somonis (TJS) in counterfeit dollars and euros that came out of his color printer.

The Interior Ministry’s official website says a 33-year-old resident of Dushanbe has been detained on suspicion of producing counterfeit dollars and euros.

On February 4, 2022, the man reportedly bought a gold chain and a gold bracelet worth a total of TJS82,500 form a merchant at a bazaar in the city of Bokhtar, Khatlon province. paying for them in 70 counterfeit US$100 bills and 50 counterfeit €50 bills that came out of his color printer.   

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged counterfeiter and an investigation is under way.
