Entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan’s Ferghana region intend to participate in establishing joint cotton-ginning factories in Tajikistan’s Sughd province.

Representatives of business communities and Sughd and Ferghana have reportedly signed more than 15 agreements on mutual cooperation in  light industry and agriculture.

One of these agreements reportedly provides for establishing joint cotton ginneries in northern Tajikistan.

Over the past two days, about 20 Uzbek entrepreneurs led by Ferghana region deputy governor Alibek Tursunov have got acquainted with capacities of cotton ginneries operating in Sughd province and opportunities of agrarian sector of the Sughd province, a source within the Sughd regional administration told Asia-Plus in an interview on June 3.   

Meanwhile, Sughd deputy governor Anvar Yaqubi told Asia-Plus the business communities of Sughd and Ferghana had reached an agreement on establishing spinning mill in Asht district.

According to him, the sides also discussed issues related to reintroducing idle capacities into operation.  

Ferghana deputy governor Alibek Tursunov told Asia-Plus that they wanted to share with Tajik colleagues their experience in increasing the yield of agricultural products.

According to him, they are interested in purchasing raw cotton in the Sughd province. 

“A Korean company, having its subsidiaries in the Ferghana region, is interested to purchase up to 20-25 tons of raw cotton in Sughd.” Tursunov added.
