Uzbek senior delegation visits Kabul to discuss economic cooperation issues

Uzbek media reports say Abdulaziz Kamilov, the ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, has made his first visit to Afghanistan in a new capacity.

Uzbekistan delegation headed by the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Foreign Policy – Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the President Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is also the Special Representative of the Uzbekistan President for Foreign Policy, paid a visit to the capital of Afghanistan, Kabul, on June 20. 

During the visit, separate talks were reportedly held with Deputy Prime Ministers of Afghanistan, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Abdusalam Hanafi.

The parties discussed the ways to advance and strengthen cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, as well as the implementation in the territory of Afghanistan of infrastructure projects initiated by Uzbekistan in the energy and transportation sectors.

The Afghan authorities reportedly expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for providing humanitarian assistance to the country, as well as efforts to restore the national economy.

Members of the Uzbek delegation also met with Acting Foreign Minister Amirkhan Muttaqi and Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.

Afghanistan’s TOLOnews, citing a statement released by Baradar’s office, says that during the meeting with Mullah Baradar, Afghanistan’s relations with the international community and resuming economic projects were discussed.

A statement by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) reportedly said that acting Minister Haqqani told 

Afghanistan’s Khaama Press reports that Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a series of tweets that the two sides discussed Afghan-Uzbek bilateral relations, enhanced transit, and trade.
