Tajik-Chinese joint venture will build a new mining enterprise in northern Tajikistan

Asia-Plus

Tajik-Sino Mining Company will build an enterprise to process copper, led and silver in the northern city of Istiqlol, (formerly Taboshar), Sughd province.

The estimated budget for the project is 50 million U.S. dollars and construction of the plant will commence next year.  The company is expected to complete the project within one year and a half.

Istiqlol was not chosen by chance.  This city has great opportunities for the construction of new industrial enterprises.

Tajik-Sino Mining Company is located in the settlement of Zarnisor, which is administratively subordinate to the city of Guliston (formerly Qairoqqum), Sughd province.  The enterprise was granted licenses for development of the lead and zinc deposits Altyn-Topkan and Pay-Buloq.

Thirty-seven enterprises, with the majority of them being joint ventures, are now engaged in exploration and development of mining deposits in Tajikistan.

Istiqlol (formerly Taboshar) is a city located in Sughd province.   Istiqlol is a city of regional subordination, administratively subordinated to Sughd’s capital, Khujand.

The first Soviet uranium mine was established in Taboshar during the World War II.  Taboshar was the first of many officially secret Soviet closed cities related to uranium mining and production.
