Over the first six months of next year, Tajikistan and China are expected to launch a number of new air routes connecting their cities, including the countries’ capitals, an official source within the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Tajikaeronavigatsiya (Tajik air navigation), who wanted to remain unnamed, told Asia-Plus Tuesday (December 20) afternoon.

According to him, this issue was discussed by Tajikaeronavigatsiya Deputy Director General Davron Shodmonbekzoda and representatives of a Chinese delegation at a press videoconferencing that took place on December 16.

Press videoconferencing is an international press conference using videoconferencing (a form of teleconference) over the Internet.

The parties reportedly discussed technical issues and installation of aviation equipment.

“At the first stage, it is planned to open direct air traffic between the capitals of the two countries,” the source noted.

“If we make it on time, planes will fly from Dushanbe to China’s cities from the second half of next year,” he added.

At the same time, it is not yet known which airline will operate these flights.

To-date, there have been two flights between Tajikistan and China:  from Dushanbe to Urumqi, the capital of China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and from Khujand to Urumqi.

The flights have been temporary suspended due the coronavirus situation in China.
