Tajikistan’s external trade turnover estimated at more than 505 million US dollars last month

In January, 2023, Tajikistan’s external trade turnover amounted to 505.1 million U.S. dollars, which is 12.5 percent, or 72.4 million US dollars less than in the same period last year.

Last month, the trade balance was negative and amounted to 265.1 million U.S. dollars.

Over the reporting period, Tajikistan reportedly had trade relations with 86 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.

Exports of goods in January reportedly amounted to 120 million U.S. dollars, which is 10.8 percent, or 14.5 million U.S. dollars less than in January last year. 

Over the reporting period, the country’s exports include mainly mineral products (cement, ores and concentrates, electricity, coals) – 53.8 percent, non-ferrous metals (aluminum) and products made from them – 21.5 percent, textiles and products made from them – 15 percent, products of plant origin – 3.0 percent, products of chemical industry – 1.6 percent, other goods – 1.5 percent.   

In January, the major trading partners of Tajikistan’s exports were: Kazakhstan – 29.8 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s exports; China – 29.5 percent; Turkiye – 13.5 percent; Russia – 9.0 percent; Iran – 5.2 percent; Uzbekistan – 4.9 percent; Afghanistan – 3.6 percent; Croatia – 1.4 percent; and others.  

Imports of goods into the country last month amounted to 385.1 million U.S. dollars, which is 13.1 percent, or 57.9 million U.S. dollars less than in January last year.  

The main items of Tajikistan’s imports over the reporting period were: mineral products, including energy and natural gas – 17.0 percent; machinery and equipment – 13.1; products of plant origin – 9.3 percent; base metals and manufactures thereof – 9.0 percent; products of chemical industry – 8.5 percent, finished food products – 7.4 percent; fats and oils of animal and vegetable origin – 3 .1 percent; polymeric materials, rubber and products from them – 3.7 percent; wood and wood products – 4.9 percent; other goods – 23.6 percent.  

Over the reporting period, the major trading partners of Tajikistan’s imports were: Russia – 26.1 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s imports; China – 18.5 percent; Kazakhstan – 16.9 percent; Turkiye – 6.1 percent; Uzbekistan – 5.7 percent; Germany – 5.0 percent; Japan – 3.5 percent; Turkmenistan – 2.5 percent; Iran – 2.3 percent; the Republic of Korea – 1.8 percent; the United States – 1.7 percent; Belarus – 1.5 percent; India – 1.1 percent; and others.  

Over the reporting period, major trading partners of Tajikistan were: Russia – 22 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover (4.0-ercent decrease compared to January 2022); China – 21 percent (30-percent decrease); and Kazakhstan – 20 percent (18-percent decrease).
