The Russian ruble depreciates sharply against the Tajik national currency

The Russian ruble has depreciated sharply against the Tajik national currency, the somoni, over the past nine days. 

According to data from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the official exchange rate of the Russia ruble against the somoni over the reporting period fell from 1:0.145 on March 29 to 1:0.137 on April 6 (3.5-percent decrease).  

It is to be noted that over the past months,  the exchange of the somoni against the Russian ruble had been stable in the range from 0.45:1 to 0.142:1.  

As far the exchange rate of the somoni against the dollar is concerned, after the sharp depreciation in late February, it is staying the same currently – 10.9:1.  

According to Tajikistan’s financial regulator, the exchange rate of the somoni against the euro fell from 11.8355:1 on March 29 to 11.9638:1 on April 6.  

Meanwhile, according to data from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, the Russian ruble has lost 2.6 percent of its value against the dollar since the beginning of April – from 77.3:1 on April 1 to 79.3:1 on April 6.
