The Tax Department of Tajikistan named five of its largest debtors

Date:

The balance of tax arrears as of July 1, 2023 amounted to 764.3 million somoni (more than $70 million), head of the Tax Committee under the Government of the country Nusratullo Davlatzoda said at a press conference on August 14.

This, according to him, is 36.2 million somoni more compared to the same period in 2022.

The chief tax officer also named the five largest debtors, who collectively owed almost 235 million somoni (about $ 22 million). These include:

– OJSC "Sangtudinskaya HPP-1" – 94 million somoni;

– LLC "Talco Resource" – 39 million somoni;

– LLC "TBEA Dushanbe Mining Industry" – 36.5 million somoni;

– OJSC "Rogun HPP" – 33.3 million somoni;

– OJSC "Tajiktelecom" and its structures – 31.5 million somoni.

The reasons for the formation of tax arrears, according to him, are different.

"Some are related to the financial situation, some are related to something else. We are working in this direction," Davlatzoda said.

He noted that in the first half of this year taxes in the amount of 486 million somoni were forcibly collected from debtors.

Davlatzoda stressed that in the first half of this year, at the expense of internal taxes and other mandatory payments, more than 8.5 billion somoni (more than $780 million) were collected and sent to the state budget, which is 594 million somoni more than the approved plan.

"The execution of the revenue part of the state budget has improved in quality compared to previous years, during this period it was not possible to provide only two types of taxes – a social tax at the expense of off-budget enterprises and a tax on natural resources," he added.

Meanwhile, according to the Tax Committee, about 2.7 billion somoni (about $248 million) was not received by the state budget in the first half of this year due to the tax benefits and preferences granted to certain priority sectors of the country's economy.
