Emomali Rahmon: More than 23 billion somoni invested in GBAO for 30 years

Over 30 years of state independence, more than 23 billion somoni have been sent to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region from various sources of financing, President Emomali Rahmon noted, speaking today, August 17, to the leadership and activists of the region.

According to the press service of the head of state, it was noted that out of this amount, 5.7 billion somoni were allocated from the state budget.

"We declare the 21st century the century of development and progress of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region and we are taking all measures for this," Rahmon stressed.

The President noted that over the years 33 state investment projects have been implemented in the region aimed at developing the socio-economic infrastructure and improving the standard of living of the population of the region. The total cost of these projects exceeds three billion somoni.

Currently, 16 more projects aimed at improving the situation in the region are being implemented. Their total amount is 5.5 billion somoni.

During the period of independence of the country, 12 state investment projects totaling 2.3 billion somoni were implemented for residents of GBAO in order to build highways of international importance, to date, more than 200 kilometers of roads, 1 tunnel and 25 bridges have been commissioned. Currently, 5 other projects worth more than 3.2 billion somoni are being implemented in the region, at the same time two more state investment projects are planned for the construction and reconstruction of highways and bridges in the amount of 2.7 billion somoni.

"In addition, in order to improve the welfare of the people and ensure the strategic goals of the country, 9 local socio-economic development programs are being implemented in the cities and districts of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, within the framework of which 808 projects, worth more than 7 billion somoni, are being implemented," the President noted.

The President noted that in honor of the 30th anniversary of independence, more than 1,000 new facilities and buildings worth 1 billion somoni were commissioned in the cities and districts of the region.

In honor of the 35th anniversary of independence, the construction and reconstruction of almost 1,200 other facilities are planned, until today, the construction of more than 260 facilities and buildings worth more than 700 million somoni has been completed.

During the period of independence, the energy sector in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region has achieved significant success. During this period, 24 projects totaling 1.6 billion somoni were implemented in the region, currently work is underway on 7 projects totaling 1.1 billion somoni.

The President noted that the Ministry of Energy, “Pamir Energy” and the executive body of the regional government were instructed to intensify cooperation with development partners and investors to create small hydroelectric power plants, as well as solar and wind power plants and take measures to provide the population of the region with 100 percent constant electricity.

Emomali Rahmon stressed that over the past 20 years, funds in the amount of 1.7 billion somoni have been allocated to the education sector of the region at the expense of the state budget.

During the years of independence, 5.3 billion somoni of funds were allocated from all sources of investment only in the construction sector of the region, 1,465 socio-economic facilities were built and reconstructed.
