The revenues of Tajikistan’s “main wallet” exceeded the planned volume by almost $92 million

Date:

The revenue part of the state budget of Tajikistan in the first half of the year amounted to over 19.8 billion somoni (more than $ 1.8 billion), according to the Ministry of Finance of the country.

This is 5.2% or almost 1 billion somoni ($92 million) more than the specified plan. The share of tax revenues to the budget amounted to 63% – 12.6 billion somoni.

In particular, the volume of internal taxes and other mandatory payments collected by the tax department amounted to more than 8.5 billion somoni, which is 594 million somoni more than the approved plan.

The collection of customs payments for this period amounted to 4.1 billion somoni. This is 450 million somoni, or 12.1% more than the planned volume.

Experts expected that the Tax Code, which has been involved since 2022, at the initial stage will lead to a reduction in the share of taxes in budget revenues, as some rates have decreased.

World Bank economists noted in a recent report that Tajikistan's budget deficit in 2022 was covered mainly by external financing.

"The deficit was partially offset by grants from development partners and higher non-tax revenues," the report says.

Analysts of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund recommended that the Government of Tajikistan phase out numerous tax benefits.

"This can expand the tax base and reduce imbalances," the Review of Government Spending in Tajikistan said.

According to the country's Tax Committee, the state budget in the first half of this year did not receive about 2.7 billion somoni (about $ 248 million) due to the tax benefits and preferences granted to certain priority industries, sectors of the country's economy.
