At this moment, a Tajik-Iranian business forum is being held at Tojikiston Hotel in Dushanbe.
An official source within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan says the event has brought together about 120 Tajik entrepreneurs and about 50 businessmen from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The entrepreneurs are currently holding meetings in a B2B format and then an official opening of the forum will take place in Kokhi Istiqlol, the source added.
According to him, the main purpose of the forum is “in presenting the maximum number of investment and business opportunities and promoting diversification of investments in Tajikistan’s economy.”
Meanwhile, Tehran Times reported on November 1 that the Iran-Tajikistan Joint Chamber of Commerce is going to send a trade delegation to Dushanbe during November 7-12, concurrent with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to the country. The visit of the Iranian delegation to Tajikistan was reportedly organized in collaboration with the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) portal and Trade Promotion Organization (TPO).
Holding a business conference with the presence of economic operators and officials of the two countries and business visits during the trip will be part of the plans of this visit.
At a meeting between Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Mehdi Zeyghami and Tajikistan’s Ambassador in Tehran Nizomuddin Zohedi, which took place in late July, the two reportedly discussed the ways of removing trade barriers and improving economic relations between the two countries.
The Tajik ambassador emphasized that Tajikistan is eager for expanding trade ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Zeyghami, for his part, said that President Ebrahim Raisi's administration attaches great importance to trade ties with neighboring countries, including Tajikistan, and proposed holding a joint business forum between the two countries during the Iranian president's upcoming visit to Dushanbe.
He also pointed to the decrease in the volume of trade between the two countries and noted that TPO is conducting research for identifying the causes and is taking the necessary measures to remove the obstacles to the development of trade between Iran and Tajikistan.
The official further announced that Iran is going to dispatch a commercial attaché to Tajikistan by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (late March 2024).
According to data of the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Iran over the first nine months of this year has valued at has valued at US$175.1922 million, which is 11.4 percent more than in the same period last year. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Iran estimated at US$63.0261 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Iran US$112.1661 million.
