413 suicide ad suicide attempts were reported in Tajikistan last year, which is 2 cases fewer than in 2022, an official source within the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
A totaled reportedly included 339 suicides and 74 suicide attempts.
According to statistical data from the Interior Ministry, 177 men (3 cases more compared to 2022) and 38 juvenile males (two case fewer than in 2022) committed suicides last year1 as well as 158 women (five cases fewer compared to 2022) and 47 juvenile females (five case more than in 2022) committed suicide last year.
As in the previous years, most suicides (141 cases) were committed last year by residents of Sughd province. Besides, 31 suicide attempts were reported in Sughd province in 2023.
In Khatlon province, 99 suicides and 18 suicide attempts were reported last year.
In districts subordinate to the center, 49 suicides and 18 suicide attempts were reported in 2023.
In the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), 24 suicides and 4 suicide attempts were reported last year.
In Dushanbe, 19 suicides and 3 suicide attempts were reported in 2023.
As far as the cause of the suicide cases is concerned, according to data from the Interior Ministry, 87 suicides were related to psychiatric disease, which is 15 cases fewer than in 2022. more than in January
14 suicide cases were reportedly caused last year by financial stress, which is 6 cases more than in 2022.
In 2023, 35 suicides were caused by family conflicts, which is 13 cases more than in 2022.
Meanwhile, the cause of suicide was unknown in 211 cases, which is 34 cases more than in 2022.
Besides, there were 66 other cases, the reasons for which no further information is provided.
