Russian president appoints his niece deputy minister of defense

Russian President Vladimir Putin sacked four deputy defense ministers on Monday, handing job to a relative.  

By president’s decree published on Russia’s legal acts portal, Putin's great-niece Anna Tsivilyova has been appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Pavel Fradkov, the youngest son of Mikhail Fradkov, Director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies also former Prime Minister and chief of foreign intelligence, has also been appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense.

Mrs. Anna Tsivilyova is Russian stateswoman, public figure and businesswoman.  Mrs. Tsivilyova, nee Putin and after Loginov’s first husband, was born on May 9, 1972.  She is head of the Kolmar coal mining company and chairperson of the Council for Guardianship in the Social Sphere of Kuzbass.  She also heads the “Defenders of the Fatherland” State Foundation (2023-2024), providing support to military personnel and their families. 

Her husband, Sergei Tsivilyov, is the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation.  Previously he served as 3rd Governor of Kemerovo Oblast from September 2018 to May 2024.  He is the member of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party.  

According to data of the European Union and investigative journalism, Mrs. Anna Tsivilyova is the great-niece of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
