Tajik experts believe that high-quality Internet could replace absent teachers in schools. Meanwhile, the poor and expensive Internet hinders the development and education of Tajik teenagers.
There are not enough teachers in schools in Tajikistan, especially in subjects such as mathematics, physics and English.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, at the beginning of the 2023/2024 academic year, the need for teachers amounted to almost 4.4 thousand people. This is 947 more teachers than a year earlier. The reasons for the shortage of teachers: migration, low salaries, poor working conditions.
According to the teachers themselves, the number of teachers who leave school has increased even more due to the adoption of the law "On Responsibility for education and upbringing of children" in a new edition.
According to the new version of the Law, the upbringing of children was divided into three institutions: society, family and school. Teachers who are already tired of inspections by various government agencies are starting to leave their jobs.
Online education could be a solution to this problem by providing access to educational materials and lessons from qualified teachers from all over the world. However, due to the poor Internet, many teenagers cannot take advantage of this opportunity.
Distance education allows you to study anytime and anywhere, which is especially important for children in remote areas where access to schools and teachers can be difficult.
Access to content in different languages makes future specialists more competitive in the labor market. Educational platforms offer students to study according to a schedule and pace that is convenient for them.
According to Jahongir Jalilov, co-founder of the IT company Livo, improving the speed and accessibility of the Internet is one of the main factors in the development of the digital ecosystem as a whole.
"If we talk about young people in villages, it would help them with studying, since video content (the main way of perceiving data at the moment) will be more accessible. All the available services in the country would be able to reach even more users," he says.
The fact that teenagers in Tajikistan face restrictions due to poor Internet access will lead to a slowdown in the country's economic development in the long term, as the younger generation will be less prepared to work in high-tech and competitive industries.
