In QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025, Tajikistan’s best university, National University of Tajikistan (TNU), ranks 561st among 984 universities in Asia.

This year’s QS Asia University Rankings includes 65 universities from four Central Asia’s nations: 35 universities from Kazakhstan, 23 universities from Uzbekistan, six universities from Kyrgyzstan and only one university from Tajikistan.

Founded in 1947, Tajik National University is the largest university and the only national university in Tajikistan. In due time, it had been ranked as one of the most prestigious universities in Central Asia since its inception.

Tajik National University now prepares extensive human resources for the economy of Tajikistan, from medical doctors to finance professionals and journalists.

Meanwhile, three Kazakhstan’s universities – Almaty-based Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi (ranks 29th), Astana-based Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumelyov (ranks 65th) and Almaty-based Satbayev University (ranks 89th) are among the top hundred best universities in Asia.

Uzbekistan’s best institution, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers, ranks 159th, and Kyrgyzstan’s best institution, Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, ranks 230th.

This ranking assesses 984 institutions covering 25 countries in Eastern, Southern, South-Eastern and Central Asia.  The QS World University Rankings: Asia 2025 allows institutions and students to make direct comparisons on institutional performance within their region, with a more granular approach to metrics.

The top four leading institutions in the table remain unchanged, with Peking University achieving first place for another year, scoring particularly highly in Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and Outbound Exchange Students.

The University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) maintain second, third and fourth respectively.
