Seventeen transport companies in Tajikistan have ceased operations, Minister of Transport Azim Ibrohim announced during a meeting with the heads of transport enterprises that took place on November 30. Inspections reportedly revealed that these companies were not functioning, leading to their removal from the list of active enterprises.
As a result of the Ministry of Transport (MoT)'s review, the total number of transport companies in Tajikistan decreased from 228 to 211. Of them, 64 specialize in cargo transportation, 70 focus on carriage of passengers, and 76 operate in a mixed format.
However, only 57% of active companies have the necessary technical and material resources to provide quality services.
This shortfall, according to the minister, negatively affects the quality of services provided and often fails to meet legal requirements, including regulations for cargo and passenger transportation.
Shortage of refrigerated trailers
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Ibrohim reportedly highlighted the critical shortage of refrigerated trailers in the country, which has a significant impact on transporting perishable goods such as food, medicine, and other temperature-sensitive items.
"Currently, we have only 171 units of such equipment. This is clearly insufficient. We need to increase the number to at least 500," Ibrohim emphasized.
He also pointed out that many existing refrigerated trailers are outdated and require major repairs. The high cost of spare parts and repairs remains a serious challenge. To address these issues, a MoT plans to increase the procurement of new trailers and spare parts for modernization and maintenance.
Commitment to transport infrastructure development
During the meeting, the minister stressed that the ministry would actively address the existing problems to ensure the stability and sustainable development of Tajikistan's transport infrastructure.
